About Bloch Lumber's People 

Gregg RileyGregg Riley, President of Bloch Lumber and a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, began his career in the lumber industry as a lumber handler in 1971. After graduation he went on to manage a reload center in Western Massachusetts and joined Bloch Lumber in 1981. His early training for Bloch was in both commodity futures and lumber trading. Gregg became sales manager in 1987, vice-president in 1992, and was named president in 2000. Gregg was elected to the NAWLA Board of Directors in the Spring of 1999, and was elected Chairman of that board in 2007. Gregg's hobbies are golf, basketball and triathlons.

 

 

 

Ted C. BlochTed C. Bloch, Founder of Bloch Lumber, is a graduate in economics from the University of Chicago. He began his career in the wholesale lumber industry 50 years ago and incorporated Bloch Lumber in 1959. Ted served the North American Wholesale Lumber Association as its vice president from 1976 to 1978 and as its president in the 1979-80 year. He served as a faculty member during the early years of the NAWLA Wood Marketing Seminars, and continues to be active in the Association. He became a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in 1968 and headed the committee that created the first lumber futures contract. He has been an active member of the CME's Forest Products Committee, and in 1996 co-authored the original OSB contract. Ted's extensive knowledge of both the forest products industry and the commodity futures markets enabled him to develop a Guaranteed Forward Price Program (GFPsm) in 1969. This program remains a major and growing part of the Bloch Lumber business today. He enjoys reading and music, and is an avid tennis player, white water rafter and fisherman.

 

Ashley BoeckholtAshley Boeckholt, Vice President of Sales at Bloch Lumber, and a 1990 graduate of Truman State, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. Ashley learned the lumber business growing up in a Family lumber yard along with working construction. He interned on the floor of the Board of Trade where he began to learn the commodity trading business. In 1992 he brought that expertise to Bloch Lumber where he worked to help develop an early trading model of Guaranteed Forward Pricing. Ashley worked in Sales where he became the sales manager in 1995 and a Vice President in 2008. He now manages sales and manages inventory positions along with the Forward Pricing Book. His hobbies include hunting, exercising, reading about new trading methods and constantly developing new sales habits to create the team atmosphere at Bloch.

Chicago Office - Sales Representatives 

Ken Butler Ken Butler is a graduate of the University of Chicago. He joined Bloch Lumber in 1984 and, because of his organizational talents, became the manager of freight shipments and inventory control. He became a lumber trader in 1987 and was subsequently trained in commodity futures, becoming a registered futures broker in 1989. His combined knowledge of the lumber and futures markets have enabled him to become adept at implementing Guaranteed Forward Pricing programs. Ken enjoys fishing, bowling and putting parts on his Lotus faster than they can fall off.

 

 

Justin SmithJustin Smith, a recent addition to Bloch Lumber grew up in Grand Rapids MI. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in finance. Justin has been in the finance and banking industry from 2002 until joining the team at Bloch Lumber in January of 2006. In Justin’s free time he enjoys playing poker, running, swimming, basketball, softball, volleyball, and bowling.

Colorado Office - Sales Representatives


Tod Tibbetts
Tod Tibbetts combines a knowledge of the forest products industry with information technology. After operating a planer mill in a northern Wisconsin sawmill in 1979, Tod moved to the management of a wholesale distribution center in Duluth, Minnesota. After working with their computers for ten years, he became knowledgeable in the computerization of wholesale lumber sales and support systems. He did a two-year stint with a lumber software programming company in Philadelphia and in 1995 joined Bloch Lumber as IT director and account manager, first in Duluth, Minnesota then in Silt, Colorado. In addition to his IT duties, Tod buys inland empire lumber and handles direct sales and Guaranteed Forward Pricing programs for his customers. An avid skier, Tod combines his passion for selling and computers with skiing, mountain biking and camping in the Colorado Rockies.

Ohio Office Sales Representatives 

Roger DennyRoger Denny
knew he liked the forest products industry in college. He graduated from Ohio State's Forest Industry Management Program in 1978. Roger then joined Champion Lumber Company in outside sales before being transferred to their control sales office in Eugene, Oregon. Returning to Ohio, he joined Thomas Forest Products whose sales operation became part of Bloch Lumber in July, 1992. Roger has a keen understanding of both the freight and wood products markets and excels in matching his customers' needs to available production. Roger enjoys golf, softball and volleyball, as well as teaching Sunday School classes.

 

 

 


Dave O'BrienDave O'Brien graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in marketing. He began his career in lumber production and sales at Cascade Empire Corp. in Portland, Oregon. Dave then joined Thomas Forest Products in Lebanon, Ohio as a sales representative specializing in SPF and Hem/Fir dimension sales to the Midwest. Dave joined Bloch Lumber in 1992 as an account manager and is one half of the duo in the Lebanon, Ohio branch office. He is well versed in Midwest Markets and helps his many accounts fill hard-to-find items. Dave plays golf and racquetball, and is a loyal supporter of the Ohio State University football team.

Erin Denny

Erin Denny graduated from Miami University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resource Management.  She started interning at Bloch in December of 2001 and joined as a full time trader upon graduation.  Erin specializes in trading SPF, SYP, and OSB and has recently moved out to Portland in order to promote Bloch's presence in the Western Species Market. In her free time Erin is an avid sand volleyball player and when she's not on the court she enjoys water skiing, fishing, and anything that has to do with enjoying the warm summer sun.

Southeast Division - Sales Representatives


Jim SindlerJim Sindler
is an Illinois native who moved to Georgia with the 3M Advertising Company after graduating from Thornton College where he majored in business and accounting. In 1993, he joined his wife Sandy at the Bloch Lumber Southeast Division in Norcross, Georgia, working as a freight coordinator. After a short time, Jim began trading lumber and panel products and quickly became an important account manager. Jim regularly creates specialized Guaranteed Forward Pricing programs, enjoys trading lumber in the cash market and adding value for his customers along with his responsibility for warehouse sales and distribution. He also shares buying responsibilities for SYP and Canadian SPF. Jim and his wife Sandy enjoy building houses and have finished their third new home on Georgia's Lake Hartwell. Besides building houses, Jim enjoys boating, skiing and fishing, as well as golf, gardening and woodworking when time allows.

Harry FergusonHarry Ferguson
was raised in Washington, North Carolina. He attended Wingate College in Wingate, North Carolina. Before coming to Bloch, Harry worked for Amer-Group Mortgage. He has also worked 21 years at a sawmill and has 15 years experience selling lumber. Harry enjoys visiting his grandson, watching westerns and attending church.

 

 

 

 

 


Lee Ferguson
Lee Ferguson was raised in eastern North Carolina. He attended both Chowan College and NCSU. Lee has traded lumber since 1988. He brings to Bloch his experience in Southern Yellow Pine trading. Lee enjoys raising and training Labrador retrievers and Walker fox hounds, and all types of hunting on the family farm in Grimesland, NC.
